EU states give green light to post-Brexit trade agreement

(VOVWORLD) - A spokesman for the German presidency of the EU said Monday that the bloc has given the green light to its post-Brexit trade deal with the UK, clearing the way for it to take effect next Tuesday.

EU ambassadors unanimously approved a provisional application of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. This will allow both parties to continue discussions after the UK officially leaves the EU on Thursday night.

British MPs are to meet on Wednesday to approve the agreement. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has a comfortable majority of Conservative MPs in the Commons, and the Labour opposition has promised to back the deal.
