First Global Buddhist Summit opens in India

(VOVWORLD) -Scholars, Sangha leaders, and Dharma practitioners from 30 countries attended the first Global Buddhist Summit in India on Thursday to discuss contemporary Buddhism.

The theme of the 2-day summit is “Responses to Contemporary Challenges: Philosophy to Praxis”, which will address Buddhist concerns and come up with policies.

According to the event’s official release: “Discussions will be held on four topics: Buddha Dharma and Peace; Buddha Dharma: Environmental Crisis, Health and Sustainability; Preservation of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition; Buddha Dharma Pilgrimage, Living Heritage and Buddha Relics: a resilient foundation for India’s centuries-old cultural links to countries in South, South-East and East Asia.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to address the event’s inaugural session.

Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Supreme Patriarch of Vietnam’s Buddhist Sangha, will be among the summit’s main speakers.
