Foreign leaders to visit Vietnam for Vesak Day 2019

(VOVWORLD) - Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli will pay official visits to Vietnam and attend the UN Day of Vesak 2019.

This year’s Vesak Day will be celebrated at the Tam Chuc Buddhism Culture Centre in the northern province of Ha Nam from May 12-14. According to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, more than 1,600 delegates from around the world will attend the celebration, together with 20,000 domestic Buddhist followers and onlookers. Vesak Day 2019 is themed “Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies”. Vietnam hosted the event in 2008 and 2014.

The UN General Assembly recognized the Day of Vesak in 1999 to honor Buddha Gautama and acknowledge the contributions Buddhism has made to humanity.
