French, Philippines launch global call to fight climate change

(VOVworld) – French President François Hollande arrived in the Philippines on Thursday, to promote the fight against climate change ahead of a crucial summit of world leaders. This is his first trip to the Philippines and is part of Hollande’s campaign to build diplomatic momentum ahead of the United Nations event that France will host late this year.

During their talks, Filipino President Benigno Aquino III and French President François Hollande called on the international community to combat climate change, highlighting the signing of a climate agreement during the 21st Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21) in Paris in December. The climate pact will replace the Kyoto Protocol expired in 2020 and is aimed to limit global warming to two degrees Celsius over pre-Industrial Revolution levels.
