(VOVworld) – French presidential candidates Emanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen will participate in a televised debate on May 3, four days ahead of the French presidential election’s second round.

Some of Macron’s assistants said on Monday that their debate will be broadcast live on 2 channels. Le Pen’s campaign manager said the debate will help people clearly distinguish the two candidates' positions.

In the first round of voting on Sunday, newcomer Macron, without the backing of any political party, led the field with 23.75% of the votes, followed by Le Pen with 21.53%. Le Pen has pledged to halt immigration, protect the French identity, and promote national sovereignty. The two candidates will have 2 more weeks to campaign ahead of the election's second ballot on May 7.
