G7 summit releases joint statement on Ukraine

(VOVWORLD) -The leaders of the Group of Seven nations released a statement on Ukraine as they wrap up their session on the issue in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

In the  joint statement, the G7 leaders said they were "renewing commitment to provide the financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support Ukraine requires for as long as it takes." and imposing more sanctions on Russia. The statement called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

Earlier, the US and its G7allies announced new sanctions targeting Russia's diamond industry, as well as Russian entities involved in the conflict in Ukraine.

AFP news agency quoted a diplomatic source on Friday as saying that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the G7 Summit.
