The highlight of this year’s event, the eighth of its kind, was the final round of the “Youth Drivers of Change” Awards 2019. The awards honour groups with impressive contributions to the community toward sustainability and projects initiated and carried out by young people.

Don Tuan Phuong, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS), said the organizers want to encourage Vietnamese youth to get involved in solving social issues around the globe.

“This year’s theme centers around actions for the environment and fighting against climate change. We hold the ‘Youth Drivers of Change’ Awards to honor contributions by young people to social improvement and environmental protection in particular,” Phuong said.

In addition to bringing attention to environment and climate change issues, the event also raised money for a school project sponsored by the Volunteers for Peace Vietnam Club, the CSDS, and Starfish, an Austrian NGO.

The project provides education infrastructure - school facilities, clean water, and playgrounds with equipment made from recycled materials – to disadvantaged areas.
