Hanoi honors SEA Games coaches and athletes

(VOVWORLD) -Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Dinh Tien Dung on Friday congratulated excellent achievements of coaches and athletes of the Hanoi sports delegation at the just-concluded 31st Southeast Asian Games.

At a ceremony of commendation and reward, Mr. Dung said that it is necessary to adopt mechanisms and policies to support and reward athletes in a timely manner as well as create conditions for them to exchange, learn from experience, and improve their competitive spirit at international sports tournaments.

“I urge for more leadership, direction, care and attention with practical actions. In the immediate future, efforts should be made to propose outstanding support mechanisms to discover and train talents for sports of the capital city. Investment in facilities and equipment should be promoted,” he said. 

Hanoi hosted the opening and closing ceremonies and nearly 20 competitions of the SEA Games, which concluded on Monday.

Hanoi city contributed 332 out of 1,341 members of the Vietnam Sports Delegation to the Games. They competed in 36 out of 40 sports at the Games, winning 151 medals, including 62 gold, 35 silver, and 54 bronze medals, accounting for more than 30% of the total number of medals Vietnam won.
