Hanoi steps up market management for Tet holiday

(VOVWORLD) - Hanoi authorities are trying various measures to ensure quality food for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday season, when consumer demand will surge dramatically.

20 enterprises have committed to provide food for Tet at normal prices. Demand for pork, beef, seafood, and poultry will be met, they say.

Le Hong Thang, Director of the Hanoi municipal Department of Industry and Trade, said: “The eight typical categories of Tet food will be sufficient, if not more than sufficient. We have stockpiled poultry for months to meet the demand for meat instead of pork. The volume of stockpiled eggs is up 129%.”

The Hanoi municipal People’s Committee has asked for tighter inspections and control of goods production, processing, trading, and use until the end of March to ensure food safety.
