HCMC to host ceremonies in tribute to COVID-19 victims on Nov. 19

(VOVWORLD) - Ceremonies will take place next Friday in Ho Chi Minh city to pay tribute to the compatriots, cadres, and soldiers who died during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main commemoration event in Reunification Hall, District 1, is expected to be attended by 1,000 delegates and broadcast live on television.

Local pagodas and churches will toll the bell at 7.30 pm the same day while thousands of lanterns will be released on to the canals of Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe and Tau Hu - Ben Nghe in remembrance of the deceased.

Next Thursday, the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha will host a requiem for the COVID-19 victims.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's hardest hit locality, has recorded more than 17,000 deaths from the coronavirus.
