Heavy rains cause severe losses

(VOVWORLD) - Torrential rains and flooding are ravaging Vietnam’s northwestern and north central regions.

As of Wednesday night, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Quang Tri province in the central region and Hoa Binh, Son La, and Yen Bai province in the north had reported 40 deaths, 22 missing, and 14 injured.

At least 60 houses were destroyed; 6,000 houses were under water; and crops and livestock were killed.

7,000 soldiers and local militia have been mobilized to help 8,000 local families move to safer places. Yen Bai, one of the hardest hit provinces, has 22 people dead, missing, or injured. Property losses have been initially estimated at 5.3 million USD.
