Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said the figure is vivid evidence of overseas Vietnamese’s patriotism. He stressed that Vietnam’s achievements over the past year are partly attributed to the contributions of 4.5 million overseas Vietnamese worldwide.

“The Party and State always consider the Vietnamese community abroad an inseparable part of and an important resource for the Vietnamese nation. The Foreign Ministry will continue to accompany overseas Vietnamese in the cause of national development, consolidating national unity, and raising Vietnam’s status globally,” said Mr. Minh.

Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh said 2020 is of paramount importance for Vietnam. The country serves as the ASEAN Chair and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

“We will not be able to accomplish our missions without the joint effort of the entire political system and the more than 100 million Vietnamese people including those living abroad,” said Ms. Thinh.
