Hung King Veneration Ritual seeks UNESCO recognition

(VOVworld) – UNESCO is weighing two lists of nominated intangible cultural heritages including Vietnam’s Hung King Veneration Ritual at the session opening Monday in Paris by the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The committee is scheduled to announce its decision tomorrow/ on Wednesday. Secretary of the 2003 Convention, Cecile Duvelle, praised Vietnam’s dossiers. She will present Vietnam’s remarks on the preservation of intangible cultural heritages. She said:  Vietnam has actively promoted and preserved heritages to show the whole world its efforts. Vietnam is undoubtedly a model showing that the best preservation method does not necessarily come from the wealthiest country. Vietnam’s dossier of the Hung King Veneration Ritual was well prepared.

According to the Head of the Vietnamese delegation to UNESCO, Ambassador Duong Van Quang, a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity is recognized only when it meets 5 key criteria. The heritage must embody a global value and raise people’s awareness of that value.
