IAEA: Iran is complying with nuclear deal

(VOVworld) – Iran is not pursuing construction of its existing heavy water research reactor and has not enriched uranium above an agreed 3.67%, the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported on Friday.

Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium was below the agreed level of 300 kilos, following the 2015 agreement signed by Tehran and P5+1 group, which includes the US, Russia, France, the UK, China, and Germany. Iran has not exceeded the permitted level of 130 tons of heavy water.

Iran agreed to reduce activities of enriching uranium as long as international sanctions on it are rejected. However, Iran’s nuclear deal has been criticized by US President Donald Trump, who said it was “the worst deal” and pledged to annul it. The tension between Iran and the US has been escalated after Iran’s missile test on January 29. The White House responded to Tehran with new sanctions.
