The decision was voted in favor by all deputies in Friday’s National Assembly session.

ILO Vietnam Director Chang-Hee Lee said the move will boost sutstantial collective bargaining to work out solutions that will benefit all parties involved in the workplace, resulting in improved working conditions, increased labor productivity, and prosperity being fairly shared.

Convention 98 is one of eight ILO’s fundamental conventions within the 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work  (FPRW) and an important component in new-generation free trade agreements like the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the FTA between Vietnam and the EU (EVFTA).

This is the sixth ILO convention Vietnam has adopted. Vietnam will continue to prepare for  the ratification of Convention 105 on forced labour next year and Convention 87 on freedom of association in 2023.
