IMF names Kristalina Georgieva as new head

(VOVWORLD) - Bulgarian economist Kristalina Georgieva was confirmed on Wednesday as new Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and Chair of the Executive Board for a five-year term starting on October 1, 2019.

She was previously the CEO of the World Bank. Addressing the media at the bank's Washington headquarters after her confirmation, Ms. Georgieva expressed the honor of being  selected for the post, but admitted to the many challenges the global economy is facing at the moment.

She said her priority is to help the bank's 189 member countries minimize risks. She underscored the need to focus on longer-term targets to build stronger economies and improve people’s living standards around the world based on good fiscal policies and a firm operational structure.
