India against ASEAN joining new supply chain

(VOVWORLD) -India has opposed Japan’s suggestion to include ASEAN countries in the Supply Chain Resilience Initiative (SCRI) which seeks to reduce dependence on China and build resilient supply chains in the Indo Pacific region.

The SCRI was launched in 2020 as proposed by Japan, with the participation of India, Japan and Australia.

The Economic Times of India said that while Japan wanted 10 members of ASEAN to join in to form this new link, India wants to safeguard its interests from China’s indirect influence through Beijing's investment in the bloc as New Delhi builds on its self-reliance to reduce dependence on imports.
