All countries want a stable and peaceful South China Sea, Marsudi told an online press conference on Thursday. She expressed concern over recent developments and said respect for international laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), needs to be enforced by all parties.

Minister Retno said all nations must contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea, and refrain from actions that could increase tension in the region.

The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has insisted that China’s unilateral claims over the South China Sea have no legal basis and run counter to UNCLOS.
