(VOVWORLD) - Iran does not plan to immediately resume talks on its nuclear program with European nations after they reimposed sanctions, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.

Esmaeil Baqaei said Iran will keep in touch with all parties and make decisions based on its national interests. Iran is, he said, examining the "consequences and implications" of the restart of sanctions initiated by France, Britain and Germany — the so called E3. The E3 were among the countries that signed the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran known as the JCPOA.

On August 28, the E3 launched a 30-day process to re-impose UN sanctions, accusing Tehran of failing to abide by the 2015 deal intended to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon.

As the two sides failed to make progress in negotiations on Iran's nuclear program during the 30-day period, the sanctions took effect again on September 28.
