(VOVworld) – On Thursday, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed Israel’s plan to build a concrete wall that goes tens of meters aboveground and underground to deter attacks through underground tunnels by the Islamic Jihad Movement Hamas.

The wall, which will cost an estimated 580 million USD, will stretch along nearly 100 kilometers of the southern border of the Gaza Strip and will be the third defense system of its kind along Israel’s border. The first 60-kilometer system was built in 1994 after the Oslo Treaty and the second system was built in 2005 after Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip. Neither of them was considered a comprehensive solution to the threat from Hamas’s attack tunnels.

An Israeli Defense Ministry official said recently that a confrontation with Hamas is inevitable and will be the last one.
