Italian police clash with migrants in Rome

(VOVWORLD) - Police and migrants clashed in Rome on Thursday when police tried to remove hundreds of migrants from Ethiopia and Eritrea who had set up a temporary camp in Rome’s Independence Square.

The migrants threw bottles and gas canisters at the police, but were driven back by water jets. Two people were arrested. 800 Eritreans and Ethiopians were recently evicted from an empty office building fronting Independence Square that had been occupied by migrants since 2013. The migrants had refused to move to new accommodations provided by the authorities.
