Japan, Africa commit to fighting terrorism

(VOVworld) – The 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-6) closed on Sunday in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

At the event, Japanese and African leaders pledged to fight terrorism and emphasized the importance of rules-based maritime order in line with international law. In the Nairobi Declaration, approved at the conference, the leaders agreed to promote investment in infrastructure to create more jobs in the fast-growing region. They also aimed to maintain maritime order, and increase security and maritime safety through international cooperation. The Declaration expressed appreciation for the efforts of the United Nations Security Council in this area.

TICAD-6 took place on 27-28 August in Nairobi. This was the first time the conference has been held in Africa. The last five conferences were all held in Japan.
