Some 1,180 candidates are running for the 465 seats in the Lower House election. 289 lawmakers are to be elected from the "first-past-the-post" system. The remainder 176 will enter the Parliament, or Diet, via the "party list". The surveys showed that the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will score a huge victory enabling Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to continue his policies. Early voting stations became congested on Saturday as people cast their votes ahead of the lower house election on Sunday due to the approach of powerful typhoon, which is moving northeast toward Japan.
