Japan, India vow to cooperate with ASEAN for regional peace, prosperity

(VOVWORLD) - Japan and India on Saturday released a joint statement stressing the importance of maritime safety in developing a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. 

The statement came under the India-Japan 2+2 dialogue’s framework taking place in New Delhi, India.

Both countries reaffirmed the importance of the ASEAN in promoting peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. India and Japan expressed their commitment to work with the ASEAN to achieve their common goals. Talking about the East Sea, India and Japan highlighted the importance of freedom of navigation, overflight, unimpeded legal trade, and peaceful settlement of disputes in line with the international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
