Japan, US hold first strategic talks on ASEAN

(VOVWORLD) - Japan and the US held their first strategic dialogue Wednesday on cooperation with Southeast Asian countries, as part of a broader policy coordination.

Wednesday's virtual session was attended by Takehiro Kano, Director General of the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, and Daniel Kritenbrink, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. The two discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN to ensure security in the Indo-Pacific region. Last week in Tokyo, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and US President Joe Biden agreed to boost ties with ASEAN.
