(VOVWORLD) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump have agreed to start new talks on trade and investment in an effort to decrease the US’s trade deficit with Japan.

President Trump said the US will not exempt Japan from steel tariffs until they reach a bilateral trade deal, which the US prefers to rejoining the Tran-Pacific partnership that the US abandoned last year.
Mr. Abe said this negotiation round will be fair and reciprocal but does not guarantee a bilateral trade agreement.
