(VOVWORLD) -The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has recently signed a facility agreement to provide up to 25 million USD for an onshore wind power generation project in Ninh Thuan province with a total capacity of 88 MW with expected reduction of some 215,000 tons of CO2 annually.

Following an earlier project in Quang Tri province signed in May 2021, this will serve as a model for private sector developed renewable energy projects in the future. The project will help contribute to the achievement of the sustainable development goals and the ASEAN’s green investment projects.

The Vietnamese government predicts electricity demand increase of 9.1% from 2020 to 2030 with significant rise following the post-pandemic economic recovery.

The government also sets a target of 9% reduction in green house emission by 2030 to better adapt to climate change. Renewable energy is expected to account for up to 20% of the total generated capacity by 2030.
