(VOVWORLD) - North and South Korea broke ground Wednesday on a project to modernize North Korean railways and roads near the border between the Koreas.

On Monday, South Korea said the groundbreaking ceremony demonstrates the Koreas' willingness to cooperate to modernize and connect their railways and roads.
Officials from the UN and neighboring countries like China, Russia, and Mongolia were invited to witness the event, which kicks off an ambitious project linking South Korea with the Trans-China and Trans-Siberian railways.
