Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan agree on ceasefire after clashes

(VOVWORLD) - Kyrgyzstan has said it agreed to a ceasefire with Tajikistan after the heaviest clashes in years erupted along the neighboring countries’ disputed frontier.

In a statement on Thursday, Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Ministry said a complete ceasefire began at 8pm local time (14:00 GMT), with military forces returning to bases. This is the result of several rounds of talks between the two Foreign Ministers.

According to the statement, joint border patrol groups between the two countries will be established, and border guard forces will take part in information sharing and civil conciliation.
