To Anh Dung, Deputy Foreign Minister, said the recent increase of trans-national migration has led to the GCM agreement to set up a global cooperative framework to manage migration efficiently.

He said Vietnam is one of countries with the increasing number of citizens migrating abroad and foreigners coming to Vietnam.

Vietnam has been drafting and advancing policies to facilitate legal and safe migration, combat illegal migration, human trafficking, and protect the rights of migrants.

Vietnam’s approval of the GCM agreement is an important step forward in international cooperation and provides a greater foundation for relevant authorities, localities and organisations in Vietnam to review and carry out the policy on migration, said Deputy Foreign Minister Dung.

The introductory meeting was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the International Organisation for Migration.
