Luxembourg PM Xavier Bettel concludes Vietnam visit

(VOVWORLD) - Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has concluded his three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

During his visit, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel held talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and witnessed the signing of a number of cooperative agreements, especially an agreement on a strategic partnership on green finance between the two Ministries of Finance.

The Luxembourg Prime Minister met National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and visited the Temple of Literature and the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.

In Ho Chi Minh city, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel met with Chairman of Ho Chi Minh city’s People’s Committee Phan Van Mai, attended and delivered a speech at the Vietnam-Luxembourg Business Forum and paid visits to the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange and the War Remnants Museum, and surveyed climate change impacts on the Sai Gon river banks.

During the meetings between the Luxembourg Prime Minister and Vietnamese leaders, the two sides affirmed their determination to elevate the Vietnam-Luxembourg relations to a new period of development in a more practical manner.

The two countries agreed to boost political trust, deepen the multi-faceted cooperation, increase the exchanges of delegations at all levels, and effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms in line with the needs and potentials of the two countries.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel agreed on the effective implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and called on European countries to soon approve the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

He also pledged to support stronger Vietnam-EU cooperation in sustainable development of the fishing sector and called on the EC to soon remove the “yellow card" of IUU fishing imposed on Vietnam. 

Vietnam and Luxembourg agreed to boost cooperation in other fields including culture, science and technology, IT, people-to-people exchanges, tourism, and climate change adaptation.

They will support each other in multilateral forums and international organizations.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, not using force or threatening to use force, and resolving disputes through peaceful means and in line with international law.
