Turkey should clarify its intentions, Macron told a news conference in Corsica, where he will host Mediterranean EU members for talks that are expected to include EU’s strained relations with Turkey.

Greece’s Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said European Union leaders should impose severe short-term economic sanctions on Turkey if Ankara does not remove its military vessels and gas drilling ships from waters off Cyprus.

EU leaders will hold a special summit on September 24-25 to discuss ways to resolve the Cyprus-Turkey conflict over energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean.
