(VOVWORLD) - Malaysian King Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah on Monday approved PM Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation, but appointed him interim PM.
Mr. Mahathir will continue to lead the Malaysian government until a replacement takes his mantle and forms a new cabinet.
Mr. Mahathir has also resigned as chairman of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu) which he built and had been leading. Following his resignation, Bersatu withdrew from the Alliance of Hope, the rulling government coalition, officially ending the alliance after 2 years in power.
