They are representatives from the UN, the Arab League, the EU, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and 26 other countries, including Saudi Arabia. Regarding Iran’s participation, Brahimi said that  negotiating parties failed  to agree on whether to invite Iran to attend Geneva 2 or not. However, he said he will continue cooperation with Iranian officials in case Iran’s representatives are not officially invited.

The Geneva 2, which was initially scheduled to take place in Geneva, will be divided 2 parts: the opening ceremony will take place in Montreux, and move on to UN’s head office in Geneva a day after on January 24. The conference’s target is to reach a comprehensive solution to Syria crisis, approve a comprehensive agreement between the Syrian government and the opposition camp to fully implement the Geneva communiqué adopted last June.
