This was the second event of its kind held by the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) and the International Fund-The Way for Peace. The participants from Russia, the US, the Philippines, Japan, Pakistan and Vietnam agreed that the militarization of the East Sea not only threatens regional peace and security but also affects freedom of international aviation and navigation as well as marine ecology. They suggested building an effective marine crisis management system, de-militarizing occupied entities, promoting fishing cooperation, and mobilizing all peaceful means to handle disputes based on the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the PCA’s ruling in 2016.

IADL President Jeanne Ellen Mirer said the Association urges all parties to settle East Sea disputes by peaceful means, and it will keep a close watch on the situation to ensure regional stability, peace and security.
