NA Standing Committee starts Q&A session at 36th meeting

More than 40 deputies questioned 15 ministers regarding issues of voters' concern. Addressing the session, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said: “The Q&A session took place openly, democratically and frankly showing the sense of responsibility on the part of NA deputies and cabinet members. NA deputies thoroughly explored voter questions and responded directly.”

Ngan stressed the need to adopt resolute measures to implement NA resolutions: “The government, ministries, and sectors need to fine-tune the legal system, and implement specific projects while strengthening policies for national contributors and ethnic minority people. We need to fine-tune policies on agriculture, farmers, and rural areas, while supporting fishermen and sea-based economic activities. We further need to upgrade the transport system, and implement policies to ensure sustainable development in the Mekong River Delta and promote science and technology development. Ministries, sectors and agencies need to work closely to realize these socio-economic targets.”

Addressing deputy questions regarding sea-based economic development and defense and security, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said: “Vietnam now has 82 fishing ports and 58 harbors for vessels which are currently being upgraded. We are also installing navigation  devices on fishing vessels as per the Law on Fisheries in order to boost Vietnam’s marine economy. We are also working hard to overcome the yellow card warning on Vietnam’s fishing activities.”

Minister of Labor Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said the poverty rate in ethnic minority regions reduced 4-5% while quality of life has improved remarkably: “The project on promoting socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas until 2025 has been successful so far. The National Assembly has agreed to allocate 43 million USD for the project and will start allocating the funds soon. The government considers the project the key in poverty reduction in ethnic minority areas.”

Cabinet members also responded to deputy’ questions concerning policies on science and technology development, aquaculture, seafood processing, sea-based economy, and use of foreign capital.
