They also plan to adopt a resolution ratifying Vietnam’s participation in the International Labor Organization (ILO)’s Abolition of Forced Labor Convention (Convention 105).

During a discussion on May 20, deputies said that the ratification of EVFTA would send a strong message of commitment to international economic connectivity and multinational trade in the context of rising protectionism. This would help diversify markets for Vietnamese exports and it was the right timing for Vietnam to ratify the deal to spur international integration and boost economic recovery given the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputies also voiced support for the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

Regarding Vietnam’s entry into Convention 105, which is one of the eight fundamental ILO conventions and prohibits the use of any form of forced or compulsory labor, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Dao Ngoc Dung, said Vietnam’s access to and implementation of Convention 105 originates from the country’s  interests to protect citizens and human rights as required by the Party and State in the fight against forced labor. As a responsible member of the ILO, Vietnam has always respected and promoted the implementation of international commitments.
