At the 36th meeting on Wednesday, the Committee said the new regulation should only be applied to certain jobs. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu said: “The Labor Code should stipulate what occupation will be allowed to increase overtime and how many hours of overtime per month and per year will be increased. Overtime hours should be increased, but not to 400 hours as suggested by the draft Labor Code.”

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan emphasized thorough considerations of Vietnam’s work conditions and Vietnamese’s health conditions. She added there should be an agreement between employers and employees, progressive wages to be paid to those who work overtime and setting maximum hours of overtime work per month.

The National Assembly Standing Committee also approved the regulation on raising retirement age to 62 for men by 2028 and 60 for women by 2035.
