Addressing the conference in Hanoi on Thursday, Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, called for more emphasis on international integration with specific focus on key solutions:

Mr. Chien said: "It’s important to be consistently pursuant to a foreign police of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, development, multilateralization, and diversification and enhance proactive, comprehensive international integration in depth and in width. Vietnam is persistent to the 4-zero defense policy as indicated in the White Book in 2019 for the protection of peace, self-defense and safeguarding the homeland from early and afar and in peace time while making effort to prevent conflicts and address disputes by peaceful means in line with international law."

Vietnam has had defense cooperation relations with more than 100 countries with robust switch from “participatory” to “active contribution to the building and shaping of common rules”.

In 2020, the Vietnamese Defense Ministry succeeded in its role as Chair of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting and the adoption of the ADMM+ joint declaration. Vietnam has scaled up its participation in the UN peace keeping forces and deployment of field hospitals in South Sudan.
