(VOVWORLD) - Winners of the 15th National Press Awards in 2020 for 112 outstanding journalistic works were honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on Sunday.

Addressing the event, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the press is a sharp tool to fight corruption, wastefulness, negative phenomena, and degradation in morality and lifestyle.
It has provided the public with information on Party leadership and state affairs and contributed to elevating Vietnam's stature globally, he said.
“The press has promoted the spirit of initiative, sensitivity, and timely provision of accurate and mainstream information to people of all social strata, has fought against misinformation, false information, and distortion against the Party, State and the national construction and defense cause of Vietnamese people,” said Mr. Phuc.
He added, “The Party and State always want and require journalists to maintain their political will and improve their professional capacity and ethics.”
This year the Special Prize was awarded for the first time ever. It went to a documentary entitled "Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh Era, Television Chronicle" by Nhan Dan (People) newspaper.
The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) was awarded three B prizes, one C prize, and one consolation prize.
2020 had the most participants in 15 years of the awards: more than 1,800 entries.
