(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Friday urged relevant agencies to pay more attention to the prevention and control of natural disasters which have become more complicated and unpredictable.

Chairing a national online conference in Hanoi on Friday, the Prime Minister said the Party and State have invested a great deal in combating natural calamities, taken effective measures, and strengthened international cooperation to mitigate the adverse impacts of disasters.

Mr. Phuc praised forecasts and information sharing between functional agencies to address drought and salt intrusion and restructure crops. He also commended media agencies, including the Voice of Vietnam for providing updates on climate change and other natural phenomena.

The Prime Minister said disaster prevention and control is a regular task, especially this year when 11 to 13 storms are predicted to hit Vietnam. He urged for improved human resource development, investment in irrigation and other projects, and application of science and technology.
