(VOVworld) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has proposed resuming peace negotiations with the Palestinians as soon as possible. At a meeting in Jerusalem on Wednesday, Netanyahu told Federica Mogherini, the visiting EU foreign policy chief, that Israel will keep and be allowed to expand Jewish settlements. In response, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki criticized Netanyahu for rejecting any talks that might lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state and an end to the construction of Jewish resettlements in the West Bank. Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat rejected Netanyahu’s proposal, calling on him to devise a plan based on the 1967 borders. Ekarat said Palestine supports internationalizing the territorial dispute and resolving it through the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court.
