Nguyen Xuan Phuc nominated President of Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - The National Assembly on Friday afternoon discussed the National Assembly Standing Committee’s nomination of  Nguyen Xuan Phuc as President of Vietnam. Earlier, deputies relieved Nguyen Phu Trong from the post of President.

In the morning, the National Assembly approved a resolution to relieve Nguyen Xuan Phuc from the post of Prime Minister.

The Assembly will elect the new President by a secret ballot next Monday.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc was born on July 20, 1954, in Que Phu commune, Que Son district, Quang Nam province. He has been a member of the Party Politburo since early 2011 and a member of the Party Central Committee since 2006.

Mr. Phuc experienced numerous positions, including Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Inspector General of the Government, Minister, Chairman of the Government Office, and Deputy Prime Minister. He has served as Prime Minister since 2016.
