No new COVID-19 cases in Vietnam, but 217,000 deaths worldwide

(VOVWORLD) - On Wednesday morning, Vietnam had gone 5 straight days with no new COVID-19 cases and 13 days of no community transmission in Vietnam.

The Vietnam Ministry of Health’s tally of confirmed cases remained at 270. Of those, 221 have fully recovered and 49 are still being treated in hospitals.

The COVID-19 pandemic has spread to 210 countries and territories, with 217,000 deaths reported so far. 
In the US coronavirus cases have surpassed 1 million, with over 58,000 deaths. The states of Georgia, Oklahoma, and Alaska have eased their lockdown orders, but New York, the hardest hit state, continues to urge caution while local hospitals remain overwhelmed with patients.  
In Spain, the government said coronavirus pandemic peaked on April 2. With new cases continuing to slow, Italy is likely to start easing its lockdown on May 4. 

The number of coronavirus cases in Iran has surpassed 92,000. 

In Southeast Asia, Singapore has been the hardest hit country, followed by Indonesia and the Philippines. Vietnam, Cambodia, East Timor, and Laos have recorded no COVID-19 deaths so far.
