One more COVID-related death, 50 more local infections confirmed Friday noon

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam registered its 40th coronavirus death and 50 new domestic cases on Friday noon.

The latest fatality is a 70-year-old woman with a 20-year history of diabetes and other underlying medical conditions.

She was admitted to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on May 3 for treatment of hypertension, fever, diabetes and a previous stroke. Two days later, she tested positive for coronavirus and was put on ventilators and ECMO, among other treatments.

Her causes of death were COVID-19, septic shock along with underlying conditions like hypertension and diabetes. 5 coronavirus patients have died since the new wave of COVID-19 hit Vietnam on April 27. 

Meanwhile, the latest 40 infections were detected in Bac Giang (45), Hung Yen (2), Hai Duong (1), Dien Bien (1), and Hanoi (1), all in quarantine areas.

Vietnam has so far recorded 4,883 cases including 2,689 recoveries.
