Kashmir issue main cause of India-Pakistan tension: Nawaz Sharif

Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, Sharif said Pakistan and India should respect the 2003 understanding calling for a complete ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. He proposed restraint by both countries from "the use or the threat of force under any circumstances", taking steps to demilitarize Kashmir, and agreeing to unconditional mutual withdrawal from Siachen Glacier, the world's highest battle ground. Sharif said South Asia needs strategic stability and this requires serious dialogue to achieve nuclear restraint, conventional weapons balance, and conflict resolution.

In response, Indian frankly called Pakistan a key sponsor of terrorists, adding that demilitarization of Kashmir is not the right way to create peace.
