(VOVworld) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday said the Palestinian National Liberation Movement, known as Fatah, will hold its first congress since 2009 at the end of this month.

He said the plan, approved by Fatah’s politburo, is for the congress to convene on November 29 in Ramallah. The politburo, chaired by Abbas, is the backbone of Fatah and is in charge of developing and implementing the party's strategy.

The congress will elect 23 new members to the politburo and 132 members to the revolutionary council, Fatah's parliament. Fatah is the largest faction of the 60-year-old Palestine Liberation Organisation.
