(VOVworld)- An official welcoming ceremony for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong was held in the Indian Presidential Palace in New Delhi on Wednesday by the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Party leader then laid a wreathe at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial. In the memoir book, the Vietnamese Party leader wrote: “In the memory of Mahatma Gandhi- an Outstanding leader- India’s National Hero- Great Man of Culture. His name, career, personality and ideology about non-violent struggle, peace, social progresses and equality will always in the minds of Indian people and live forever in human history”.

The same day, at a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, Trong expressed his delight at returning to India and thanked the Indian government and people for their warm welcome. He highlighted developments in relations between Vietnam and India, which have been built on the foundation of political trust and similarities. He agreed on the need to increase delegation exchanges, and boost cooperation in economics, trade, investment, national defense and security with India.

The Party leader praised the outcomes of the 15th session of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee for Economic, Trade and Scientific Cooperation held in July. He expressed his hope that the two countries’ governments and ministries would make further efforts to realize signed agreements, the Action Plan for 2013-2015 and the documents signed during the visit.
