Party leader promotes Vietnam as emerging hub for finance, high-tech manufacturing

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary To Lam met with leaders of several major British corporations and international financial institutions on Wednesday as part of his official visit to the United Kingdom.

During a meeting with Saif Malik, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank UK, Party leader Lam expressed his hope that the bank would continue providing consultation and support to help Vietnam develop into a regional financial hub. He called on Standard Chartered to advocate for an upgrade of Vietnam’s credit rating and assist with the country’s upcoming bond issuance.

In talks with Chris Drewer, Senior Vice President for Asia-Pacific at Airbus, Mr. Lam encouraged the company to deepen cooperation with Vietnamese airlines to expand its supply chain and aircraft component manufacturing in Vietnam, while supporting human resource training. He also suggested that Airbus consider establishing a regional center in Vietnam for aircraft engine maintenance and passenger and cargo services.

Later, meeting with Helen Wilson, Global Senior Vice President of Rolls-Royce Group, the Party leader proposed continued collaboration in research and development of sustainable aviation fuels, personnel training, and technology transfer in the aviation and aerospace sectors. He also called for the establishment of a Rolls-Royce engine maintenance and repair center in Vietnam.
