Pentagon authorizes 15,000 National Guard troops for Biden’s inauguration

(VOVWORLD) - The chief of the US's National Guard Bureau, General Daniel Hokanson, says 15,000 National Guard troops have been authorized to safeguard the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20.

General Hokanson told reporters Monday that the Pentagon plans to have 10,000 National Guard troops in DC by January 16, according to a senior defense official.
6,200 National Guard troops have already been mobilized in the wake of the storming of the Capitol by rioting Trump supporters.
The troops will support security, logistics, liaison, and communications missions. No decisions have been made about whether the troops will carry firearms or nonlethal weapons.
